AGAINST SUMMER TIME.
THE FIRST PROTESTS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The first petition against daylight saving made its appearance in the House to-day. It came from 128 dairy farmers and workers in the neighbourhood of Dunedin. Dairymen, they state, would have to get up in the dark all the year round, instead of having the benefit of early daylight in summer, and cows would be milked too early in the afternoon before the heat of day was over, this adding to the difficulty in preserving milk. Several other disadvantages of summer time law are enumerated, and the petition concluded with a declaration that the Summer Time Act caters principally for pleasure and recreation, while it is a serious handicap on the primary producer, on whom the real progress of the Dominion depends. Mr. Sidey's bill comes before the House for the second reading cm Wednesday.
