MINING.

OHINEMURI MIXES. THE ANNUAL REPORT. The report of the directors of the Ohine nuiri 4'Jold and Silver Mines, Ltd., jt.-itrr: that the cleetrlcal power had been in stalled at considerably below the estimated cost and Its efficiency is at least, up to anticipations. This enabled vigorous further development of the mine to be undertaken and the results were verv satisfactory, particularly in the section north of the main crosscut. The discovery of rich sulphide ore In the section beyond tfce "break," which was exposed at 450 feet north of the main crosscut, and '.he fact that when driven upon it was ascertained that this chute was striking below the No. 3 level, necessitated the extension of the Tellurite Level to intersect the reef system and demonstrate whether tills chut" extended 220 feet farther north. Ktopes have been opened in payable ores in both sections of the mine, to provide ore for the mill when re-modelling of the cyanide plant has been completed.

A satisfactory development has also occurred In the south section, from whieh it is anticipated that a large tonnage will be obtained.

As a result of the tests made by Mr. •T. R. Noble at the Thames School of Mines experimental plant, it has been definitely proved that the ore from ail parts of the mine is amenable to cyanidation. The report adds: "lout' directors fee] that shareholders can look forward with equanimity to regular returns from the capita! invested."

A comprehensive report was submitted by Mr. Noble, detailing' the results of the experiments he had made. This may be summarised in the following paragraph :— iollonrine the use of the lead compound a remarkably good extraction of the silver has been consistently obtained. and, under actual milling conditions, it can be confidently anticipated that, from ore assaying from £3 to £."> p°r ton, an extraction of Oft per cent of the gold, and from fto to 05 per cent of the silver will be obtained. I have actually got considerably higher extractions than these during the course of the experiments by extremely fine grinding of the ore but the increased cost and difficulty of obtaining such a degree of fineness on a working scule would, I think, outweigh the benefit of the resulting extra extraction." The cash summary from October 1, 1927 IP 31, 1928 > showed receipts totalling £.5721 8/6, and expenditure on capital account, £4418 9/9.

Lucky Phot. —The manager reports that this mine has been cleaned up and repaired Into both winzes. Men are re-timbering and putting new ladders In No. 2 winze* several of them were broken through a fall having taken place while the mine was Idle. During the coming we«k matters will be ready to start work on the lode. The air fan Is giving satisfactory ventilation to the workings.

Mahaklpawa.—The manager of the Mahakipawa mine reports that all construction work on the surface is completed as far as is possible pending the arrival of the cages and trucks, which are expected to be at the mine within two or three weeks. The first wash tag-np wiH be proceeded with is>till pint ta <m tfce pomd.
