WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

(Uv OlilOX.)

A. Bryoe. wlio will drive (I old Jacket in his engagements at Addington next month, lias arrived in ClirUtcliurcli.

Loeanda Mao. who won the Auckland Trotting (up in IMJI. is to ho tried again. The Brent Loeanda pacer lias boon taken in hand by G. .S. Isniith, at New Brighton.

The pacing stallion "Waverley lias been purchased by Mr. .Tames MacConneli, of Otautan. Waverley is a fashionablybred horse, being by the American sire (ialindo (a son of the famous MeKinney, 2.11} 1, from the champion brood mare Thelma (4.~»5), the mother of Wild wood •Tunior (4.33). Wild w odd (2.24). Marie Corelli (2.17), Adonis (2.141. Lady Sybil (2.18 2-o). Cameos (2.1,3 l-o); dam of Onyx 1, and others.

I Nati\c Chief, now in J. Bryce.'= charge, is reported in great order for coming engagements, and he ]>ut on condition during the period of road work lie was subjected to some little time hack. The Logan Pointer pacer lias always been well-mannered in his stable life, but lias thrown away a number of races by misbehaviour with the colours up. It will be interesting to see whether there is any improvement in his manners as a result of a change of stables.

The most successful trotter during the year was Peter Swift, who won for his owner, Mr. J. R. McKen/.ie, the sum of £184.">. He commenced the season well by winning the Queen Mary Handicap at Addingtou on August <i. The race was a two-mile one. and from a 4.3."> mark Peter Swift won by a neck from Moneyspider in 4..V> 1-f>. Gn the third day of the meeting Money>pider turned the tables on Peter Swift in the Addington Handicap, the former going 4..'59 1-5, and the latter 4.39 The brilliant trotter K.-capade. who won only £50 during the current ,-easoii, is to be prepared by J. McLean for the fast unhoppled trotters' events at Addington and Auckland. She has reached a very tight mark, and will require to l»e right at the top of her form to win from some of the improving horses she is sure to run up against during the season. Native Star, for instance, who is now rising seven, should still be capable of showing us something better than she has already done, albeit she is on a pretty tight mark now. The New .Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has received a big number of nominations for'its meeting to be decided at Addington next month, and the good class of horses engaged is particularly pleasing. The National Cup has attracted a particularly good lot. including hordes eligible for the NewZealand Cup in Acron, ICohara, WaitaUi Girl. Imprint, Talaro. Peter Bingen, Cardinal Logan, Machine Gun, Great Bingen. Prince Pointer. Jewel Pointer. Dalnahine, Great Hope, Terence Dillon. Logan Chief. .lack Potts, Native Chief. Ahuriri, and Queen's Own.

The New Zealand bred sire Adonis died recently in New South Wales. He was a good racehorse some rears a«o. taking a mile record of 2.13. and for several year- he was at the stud in New Zealand, r-nong-t his progenv being Queen's Own. Away. Downca-t*. and Adair. Upon the death of Delavan Chimes in New South Wales Adonis was purchased to fill the vacant box at the Delavan Stud. Temora. On the breakup of the Delavan Stud. Adonis was sold to Mr. F. Spackman, of Crookwell. In New South Wales he got Miss Australia, Nervie Diliou, Pegasus, Pandora, Nigger Brown, and many other good raeehorses.

The surprise of yesterday at Victoria Park was the heavy backing of a New Zealander. Bingen Boy, savs a Sydney paper of July 10. From any old' odds he was backed down to a short price, but a point behind the favourite Winnhampton. Taking the lead out of the straight lie trotted in good form, but he broke at the back and was never afterwards sighted. Bingen Boy is a siv vear-old stallion by Nelson Bingen (imp.) from the celebrated mare Norice (imp.), and is full-brother to the New Zealand celebrities Nel-on Derby. Nelson Fame, and trotter Native" Kintr. Bingen Boy was sold in New Zealand for. £100 and brought to Sydnev bv I',. ■L Chit ha 111. Had he been sound he would lisvp brought nearer four than three figures, but he is a good sort and was cheap as dirt for a stud horse.

An interesti]i<r table appear* in tlie current week's ill c ot' the "New Zealand Referee." showing how tlie .stake money provided by tlie Auckland and Otahuhu Clubs during tlie season undistributed throughout the Dominion. In all the prize money amounted to J1J4,27">. as against .€44.100 for the previous year. Of the former sum. South Island horses won £17,3L~>, North inland horses £11.830. Kpsom horses £10,530. Manjrerc representatives £4100, while £200 went to New South Wales. Horse:? from "down under*' did not do as well as last season by some £2780, but the North Islanders showed the substantial increase of over £6600. The combined winnings of horses from Epsom and ilangere showed a decrease of some £3800. While the disabilities with which some trainers have to contend during the winter months may be a contributing factor to this unsatisfactory position, so far as our Northern friends are concerned, it must, says "Ovcrcheck," be conceded that the trouble is primarily due to the fact that the horses are. generally speaking, of a lower standard than those against which they have to compete. There are. of course, exceptions, such as Jewel Pointer and Waikaha. while (.fold Jacket, Taipare and Amaiis have shown themselves capable of u»>holding the honour of the province against all-comers. Each of the live horses mentioned has won over £1000 this season. Jewel Pointer being the best winner of the year with £.5040. Gold Jacket tini>iied eighth on the list, his three winning efforts and seven placed performances netting £1700.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB,

Nominations for six members of the committee and seven stewards of the Auckland Trotting Club will be rcceivad by the secretary, Mr. A. G. Mabee, up t=ll noon on Wednesday, at the clubs office, Durham Street. '
