PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK.
J - C Hijr^ Xo man, in Xew Zealand has been more closely associated with the inner working of the Government than has "Frankie" Thomson, private secretary to the MR. F. D. Prime Minister and clerk THOMSON, to the Cabinet. He has served under four Prime Ministers—Mr. Richard Seddon, Sir Joseph Ward, Mr. Massev and Mr. C'oates—and has accompanied all of them on their tours Home for Imperial and economic conferences. He is a son of the late Mr. A. B. Thomson, for many years Parliamentary librarian. He is a B.A. and a commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. The unfortunate case in which a venerable pensioner was acquitted of the heinous offence of purloining seven onions valued, according to the charge, in the sum THE of one shilling and sixWOMAN WINS, pence, created a furore of domestic indignation, ostensibly caused by the startling price inflation seriously offered in a Court "of law. The superior "half" of M.A.T., who is an assertive authority on vegetables, and especially on the benefits of our most arsenic variety under notice, was also wroth about this* matter, declaring that it was possible any old time to buy half a dozen onions fur a pennv. An unblushing but timid retaliation that the onions alleged to be stolen may have been samples of special quality and size drew the scornful rejoinder, <; Yes, perhaps they were as big as onions, but, if so, how was it the poor old fellow had several in his pocket?"' M.A.T. resignedly lit his pipe. CHAOTICS. The formidable-looking Ttihhessocc resolved itself into a graceful Schottisehe. To-day "M.R.K." gives us Oaphimustpop, adding, as a clue, that it is quite a zoological affrir.
