A HERO.

I It was growing dark when Mr. ; Thompson camo home from a hard day's work in the woods. '"Where are Bob and Mary, Mother t '"Oh, they went to pick berries for our supper," was Mrs. Thompson's reply. He couldn't protect them. I am going to hunt for them." So lie went out with Ms gun over his shoulder into the woods. He strained his ears for a sound, but couldn't heiir anything. Ac lar-t lie was rewarded by a sound of mingled barks and screams. He rusned into the clearing to find his two children huddled against a tree with their dog Zip standing in front u: them barking at a great big wolf. The wolf could easily have got at the children, but every time the wolf went for them the dog would nip at his chest. Wolvet? are cowards unless they are with three or more of their own kin<L A shot from Mr. Thompson's gun sen' the wolf to the ground dead. After they returned home, Mr. Thompson said to his wife, "Well, I would rather have Zip auy day than any other dog. He certainly is a little hero."

"I i kink, George," remarked Mis. Gregson, as the came in from the kitclien, ''that «e ought to invito the Blundells to dinner this evening." Her hu=baud threw aside his paper and removed his spectacles. "Ei—what was chat, my dear!" he asked nervously. His wife repeated her remark in a firmer voice. "Just as you like/ 1 agreed ilr. Creason. "But why do you say "we ought'?' ••"Well,"' replied the other, "their butcher happened to leave their meat here by mistake, and it seems only fair.''
