NOTES FROM TE AROHA.

During the course of the Wellington meeting, at least two South Island owners were of the opinion that Waltzer had a good future for hurdle events of a mile and a-half. Mr. Hines would have little difficulty In selling the Hymettus gelding if he wished to do so. W. Tricklebank, who has resided in Te Aroha throughout the racing season, and who has executed a goodly share of track work, both on the flat and over hurdles, left 011 Thursday to attend the Gisborne meeting next week. Te Kawana is to be brought in from the paddock this week, and will be used as a hack for some months, pre-1 paratory to again being placed in com-| mission. As a rule the progeny of ■ Marble Arch improve with age, and when Te Kawana carries the colours as a six-year-old, he should race to advantage. Ruffles is at present carrying plenty of muscle and condition, and is acquitting himself creditably on the tracks. It is quite on the cards that the Quin Abbey gelding may be taken over to Australia in due course, and properly placed he should certainly pay his way. A four-year-old, by Marble Arch— Crown Rose, in G. A. Reid's team,, shows promise of racing successfully. He is well grown, splendidly topped, nicely let-down quarters, and has good bone. His dam was by Seaton Delaval—Vieux Rose, so the breeding includes valuable winning strains on both sides. H. Eva, who put up quite a good record of wins during his term of training operations at Te Aroha, intends to follow his profession at Paeroa, and h«p already been promised horses to commence with in the new season.

The Cynic gelding, Facia, a member of A. E. Cox's stable for part of the season, has again been brought in. He was schooled over tlie obstacles at the caurse this week, and jumped splendidly throughout. On Wednesday he was taken to the Waikato Hnnt at Morrinsville, and his jumping efforts were highly spoken of. Love Call, by Romeo — Lassie Thuraharn, is progressing favourably in his work. He is rather leisurely on the tracks, but has a nice turn of pace. If in satisfactory racing condition by September, he will compete in the Avondale Stakes, so will commence his racing career just before he is actually a two-year-old. Town Bird is not being hurried in his preparation, but should be in excellent condition if required to race at the Marton meeting in September. The same owner's Upoko, by Marble Arch— Bonnie Fishwife, is still being wintered by Trainer G. A. Reid. Early in,the season he showed a lot of pace on the tracks, but failed to get on the winning list. Marble King was given a slight respite from work after winning at Ellerslie in June, but is back to the tracks again. He promises to make a good four-vear-old. for his trainer thoroughly understands him, and should therefore place the Marble Arch gelding to advantage. Mr. John Hanks, of Shaftsbury, is at present using Glenidle as a hack in order to harden him up previous to being put into work. Thanks will probably be leased at an early date, for inquiries are already being made in this direction. The rising three-year-old filly, Lady Mestor. by Polymestor, has grown up considerably of late, and on the tracks is putting 1 more vim into her work than usual. Her owner, Mr. Hines, has hopes of tlie filly being a stayer. Tf satisfactory arrangements can be made. Mr. R. B. Hines will take King Lu over to Australia for racing in the spring. Tlie Lucullus horse is in exceptionally fine racing condition, as proved last week at Trentham under heavy weights. According to the Canterbury Jockey Club handicapper. King Lu ranks as the best miler in the Dominion at present racing In handicap company, for with 10.12 in the Winter Cup he is highly assessed.
