CANTERBURY MARKETS.
POTATOES FIRMER.
(By Teles«apb.—Pren Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday
The only devUopment since the midweek report is the firming of the potato market. In spite tl the heavy quantities shipped north since'the beginning of the month, Auckland is again inquiring. Sales for July have been made at £6 and £6 2/6, f.0.b., s.f, 2/6 to ,5/ better than a week ago. Dakotas hate been sold to Wellington at £7 2/6. The AugustSeptember market came down last week to £6 7/6 under the stress of the prompt decline, but it has recovered to-day, and sellers at £6 12/6 are scarce. The Wingatui and Kurow next weel: are expected to be the last boats for the current month, and the former's consignment will be small. The farmer is inclined to "sit" for the time being, confident that all the potatoes available will be wanted. In his favour is the fact that there are no potatoes in store at Lyttelton, as there were at this time last year. Values on trucks are £5 a ton. The only other department of produce attracting notice is wheat, and offerings of parcels of sprouted quality are freer, with a drop in values. A fair quantity of this has been selling at 5/3 to 5/4, as a;?.<unst Id to 2d more a week or two ago. Prime quality is in short supply, and shows no reduction in price. Oata are lifeless, and are quoted at 4/ f.0.b., s.i.. for A grade Gartons, and at 3/8% for B's. Chaff is weak at £3 12/6 to £3 15/, on trucks. All classes of seeds are firm, particularly cocksfoot, white clover and perennial ryegrass. Cocksfoot is quoted at 13d to 13'/id per lb, f.0.b,, s.i., or B%d to the growers. White clover is 150/ per cwt, f.0.b., s.i., or ll%d to 12% d a lb to the grower. Ryegrass is 5/9 a bushel, f.0.b., s.i.. or 4/ on trucks. Dressed cowgrass" is quoted at 112/ to 115/ per cwt, or 7d to Od a lb.
