SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT. JOVIAL LIFTS THE CUP. HACK SPRINT TO BEAU GESTE. HYPERION'S. PAREORA STEEPLES. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") TIMARU, this day. The South Canterbury Hunt Club's annual totalisator meeting is being held in fine weather on the Washdyk® racecourse. The attendance and the course are good. In the Hadlow Hurdles, Heather Lad was favourite, with Nine of Spades and Royal Land next in the order of bettingThen followed Chickwheat, with slightly less than half the money invested ou Heather Lad. Clontarf and Nine of Spades led Red Heather for three furlongs, when Nine of Spades drew clear, with Clontarf add Heather Lad next, while Goldtown dropped back. Thrse furlongs from home Nins of Spades had Red Heather in close attendance, Royal Land being next. Nine of Spades easily held his own, and beat Royal Land by three lengths. Chickwheat and Heather Lad, after being in the rear for over a mile, finished well. Chickwheat was four lengths away, and beat Heather Lad for third place. Goldtown was closs up when the post was reached. Mataipuke was a warm favourite for the Pareora Hunters' Steeplechase. Miss Tattler took charge at the start, and soon had Appolyon in second place, with Faloose, Hyperion, Swindasa and Mataipuke handy. Faloose was second passing the stand at half a mile from hqmf. He ran to the front with Tycho, and ' Hyperion. Swindasa fell at the seeond last fence, leaving Tycho in front, bat Hyperion bore him down, and won by a length. Mataipuke was six length* away, with Swindasa next. Master I Garland lost his rider at the first fence, where Krasnoi refused, as did Donation at the fourth fence. Peterline was pullsd up. The Blue Riband. Greenstone, Mainspring and Royal Wink were evenly backed in a field of five for the South Canterbury Steeplechase. Jovial and Royal Wink raced together in the lead for half-a-mile, when Jovial drew clear of Royal Wink, the pair being well clear of Greenstone, with Mainspring and Captain Sarto following. Royal Wink joined Jovial starting on the last round, where Greenstone was only four lengths away. Jovial was in the front again seven furlongs from home (where Greenstone was done), Mainspring being handy turning for hone. Jovial finished well, and beft Royal Wink by two lengths. Mainspring was half-a-length away. Greenstone was a poor fourth, whilst Captain Sarto was pulled up five furlongs from home. Results:— HADLOW HACK HURDLES of llOaors.
