CABLES AND WIRELESS.
QUESTION IN COMMONS.
(Australian Press Assn.—United Service.);
LONDON, July 13.
In the House of Commons to-day Mr. J. I. Macpherson (Lib., Inverness and Ross) referred to the Imperial CablesWireless Conference. He asked if the proposed new communications companv wouJl be on State or private ownership line?? The point was most important. It was also important to know whether the Post Office authorities advocated that it should be a State or a private company.
The member said he welcomed the suggestion in the forecast of the report published in the Press that a proportion of the profits would be reserved for a reduction in the rates. The Post should be run on those lilies, but the Chancellor of the Exchequer had always been ready to seize surpluses. He complained that in spite of the £ieat postal surplus a reversion to the penny postwas 110 nearer.
