XOSL\ PARKER.—The explanation of the difference in the price of hides sold by public auction in Auckland a* compared with those disposed of in Dunedin i.s as follows: The hides offered in Auckland are chiefly from small cattle; the .skins uf the header beasts do not usually find their way to the public sales. The hides of animals reared in th* colder climate of Ota-o are thicker and
consequence worth more per pound thau those placed on sale iii this province.
