FARMLET SCHEME.
MINISTER'S CHALLENGE.
"TEAM" CHOSEN IX KEPLY.
The editor of the '"Smallholder" being so confident that unemployment can be more or less solved by special farmlets, the Minister of Lands during a deputation at Auckland this week invited him to select a committee to develop a workable scheme fbr a test in the Auckland district, which he (the Minister) promised to consider.
In response to that invitation, the following team of six "farmlet schemes'* has since been picked, subject to the Government officers mentioned being permitted to act:—Mr. Rice (horticulture division), Mr. Jarrett (poultry division), Mr. G. A. Green (New Zealand organiser Nurserymen Association and Institute of Horticulture), Mr. G. de S. Baylis (formerly Fields officer, now farming), Mrs. H. McLean (president Auckland Civic League), and the editor of the "Smallholder/*
The difficult work of this bodv will be to obtain information as to "blocks Crown land available, and devise one or more systems of work under whick moneyless families can be placed on farmlets with immediate incomes and good The Minister has already indicated that he thinks ther are "up against it" in attempting to evolve a practicable scheme. c
