BIRTHDAY HONOURS, 1928.

" KNIGHTS AND LADIES" OF OUR CLUB. ORDER OF THE SILVER BADGE. Again comes the time when two loyal club members ere to he given 1i ntlTi ThU Te * r the ° rder of tho Silver Badge has been BETTY MOLESWORTH, 7, Ranfurly Terrace, Mount Roskill. HAROLD DOHERTY, 49, Ardmore Road, Heme Bay. , each of the members whose name appears above a club badge of silver with a gold star will be forwarded, and they have the right to append the. initials 0.5.8. to their signature when signing any correspondence or other matter in connection with the Club. .T ® ■ oxne » Perhape, the "Honours" list is a mystery. To explain the distinction 1 cannot do better than repeat my remarks in introducing the order in the Budget of December 11, 1926.

"It ii usual in most clubs to reward in some way any member who has displayed exceptional keenness and devotion to the club and its activities for its advancement. Since the inauguration of the Young Folks' Budget several people have shown these qualities, and in order to 'decorate' them 1 have created the Order of the Silver Badge." The selection of members worthy of this distinction is no small task, for there are many points to be considered. For the benefit of readers I publish the following "character" BETTY MOLESWORTH. The sunny smile which jumps out from Betty's photo is typical of her character, which must have been tried to its limit of late months. Since the beginning of this year Betty has been a martyr tc ill-health, but throughout her sunny disposition has been unaltered. Although, through her illness, she is unable to attend school, she has made the best of things and found self-appointed tasks about the house. As a club member she brought much Rood work to our pages and is a very consistent winner. Betty is a girl whom we are proud to have in our ranks* HAROLD DOHERTY. Of boys there is seldom a lot to be said, for they are far more reticent regarding their actions, which are so essentially masculine, even though youthful. As a story writer, however, Harold shows promise, and in many c Vf! h ? humorous efforts have been excellent. School work takes a lot of his time, therefore his entries are not very numerous, but they always And a mark when they are submitted. Wo say of Harold what we said of Betty—we are pleased to have you.
