il | l| Everyone will realise that a membership of 7000 is a .great achievement, but few can visualise the f j || highly efficient record system which is necessary to ksep us in touch with these thousands. 11 A glance at the composite illustration above will give readers some small idea of the inner workings II || your captain's office. At the top of the picture is seen a section of the daily correspondence, filed for 1 = 11 future reference. These letters are recorded on the backs of the cards seen at the foot of the illustration, II i| while the front contains information obtained from the enrolment form. Each cabinet contains nearly 800 |[ || cards, all carefuly indexed. One cabinet contains the birthdays, so that it is but the work of a moment II 11 to the birthdays for the week. In the centre of the picture may be seen a small section of Peter If 11 Pan's library, from which books are drawn to send to readers in return for certificates of merit. Il 11 In this connection readers will be interested to learn that every certificate that leaves office is ll || recorded on Ihe reader's individual card, with the result that a damaged certificate can be replaced without |i 11 loss to the reader. When twenty-five points have been gained, and a book prize earned, this fact is l| || recorded, and the cards are cancelled and returned to the owner together with the book. A full record is [I || kept also of. penfriends, the date and number of letters exchanged, so when we are told that a letter has || || been mislaid it is an easy matter for us to say on what date we forwarded it.
