Although there haw not 'been many ■sales on 'Change this week, the market generally shows improvement, better prices being offered lor quite u number oi lines. The 4Vs per cent War Loans, free of income tax, ml a good advance iti price th.is week, sales being made of those maturing 1038-1039. at £98 10 . For the 1'.'39 inscribed 4'/j per cent. £08 12/0 is now offered, and for the 1030 one. the buyers advanced to COS 70, yesterday afternoon. Christchuvch Farmers' Cooperative O'/a per cent debentures had business at £82 anil £83. .Auckland (.las Company 6'A per cent debentures (1035) bad regular inquiry at £102, and for the :» per cent insue £02 is offered. Gisborue 5'.4 per cent debentures sold at £00 10/. Auckland Harbour Board debentures advanced in price. The 6 per cent issue sold yesterday Iternoon at €104 10/. Buyers also came in for the OV2 per cent debentures at £90 ."»/, as compared with £08 earlier in "the week. The 4 per cent debentures, for which inquiry set in 'asl week at £88. were wanted yesterday aften at £00. Auckland City 5V2 per cent debentures arc also wanted a'. CJ>!l 5 . English and Scottish 11;.*:. shares could be got for £8 12 0, but buyers now only offer £8 9/. National Bank of New Zealand shares are now wanted at £7 3,0 and National Bank uf Australasia, contributing issue, could be sold at £0. Sellers of Bank of New South Wales shares have dropped, out, but there lias been a steady buyer at £49 12 0. Union Bank of Australia had regular inquiry this week at £15, but the Beller asks another 5/.
Insurance shares had business this week. Hi'' being pai.l for Nationals, and £3 for South BiitUh. New Zealand Insurance lliares. after selling at £2 2,3, are now Wanted at 3d advance.
Coal shares are still a popular line. Puk* miio firmed this week to buyers at £.'! ($/. and that brought a seller at £3 12 15. flikhrangi ordinary shares, ore now Wanted at 5 3, ajul buyers ui Taupiris advan'-ed their offer.-' from CI 5/9 to £1 C '3. Westport Stockton ordinary shares changed hands at 3/4. and a buyer came in for the preference issua at 3/6. Auckland Gas again sold at £1 3,3, and for contributing issue 17/3 was paid, which price could still be got. In flipping -hares, the only sale this week was in lluddart. Parker Steam at £2 8/0, and Kauri Timber sold at 19/ J. after which I'J/ was accepted. Several transactions look place in British Tobacco shares at 'J2 3/. and Gear Meat changed hands at I!) 3. The taxi cab rate war has affected (Miockers, sales being reported at 8/. Electrolytic Zinc ordinary shares sold at CI 11 o. which price is still offered, and an extra shilling could be got for the preference issue. A little demand set in for National Picture shares, and a sale was made at 13/. Dominion Pictures tirmed to buyers at £11/ for both issues, and Havwards could be placed at 19/9. Kusiness was d<Jne this week in Robinson's Ice Cream shares at £1 2/6, also in Sanfords. preference issue, at £1 O/U,
Wilsons Cement continue to firm in price, sales being made at £1 18/ and £1 18/0. New Zealand Breweries had a good ride from recent sales at £2 1/9, to business yesterday at £2 5/3. C. L. Innes and Company are also wanted at 17/ for the ordinary shares aucl 6cl less for the preference.
An advance took place in Waihi shares this week, business being done from 11/9 to 12/6, and Junctions sold at 1/4. Ohineinuri Mines are wanted at 7/ for the preference issue and 6/8 for the ordinary .shares. Mount. Lyell shares are now wanted at /£l 14/3, but sellers want another shilling.
