ADELAIDE, this day.
The president of the State Industi ial Jourt, Dr. Hewitson, has refused the amalgamated engineers' 44-hour week claim for the smelting industry at Port Pirie. He declared that public interest at present lay in th* expansion of production and services of public utility. The first need of labour was an opportunity for employment and the first duty of the community was to apply all its resources, intellectual and material, to ensuring* that opportunity.
