NINETY-FOURTH BIRTHDAY.
MR. JAMES ROBERTSON.
An old resident of Mangere. Mr. James Robertson, attained the ninety-fourth anniversary of his birth to-day, and received congratulations from quite a number of friends. Mr. Robertson arrived with his parents at Auckland by the Duchess of Argyle on October 9. 1842. Hi 9 father, the late Mr. James Robertson, started the first rope walk ill Mechanics' Bay, which he carried on tor a time, hut as there was little demand for rope in those days he took up an area of land at Mangere, where he sent his son James to bring it into cultivation, and afterwards brought the remainder of the family to reside there. In spite of his 94 years Mr. Robertson is still hale and hearty. Although his memory is not clear on things of the present day, his recollection of all the happenings of earlier years is wonderfully good. For many years Mr. Robertson has lived in retirement on the slopes of Mangere Mountain.
