NEW RAILWAY COACH.

OFFICE AMD RECEPTION ROOM A TRIAL SPIN. < B.v Telpgraph.— Special to "Slar.'"> WELLINGTON, this day. A new railway coach, embodying many improvements to roiling stock, introduced by the chief mechanical engineer of railways, Mr. G. S. Lynde, -pecialiy built as a travelling office and reception room for the general manager, Mr. Sterling, received a trial run yesterday on the Napier mail, and to-day was attached to the 2 p.nv express for Auckland. It comprises a lounge, general manager's compartment, secretary's office, kitchen ette and lavatory. The ear is fitted to suit the requirements of the general manager in course of his necessary travel over the lines for inspection and other purposes, and to give suitable quarters for the reception of deputations and persons desiring interviews. It ha* an observation end. and will probably form the last car in the train. The interior fittings and furnishings are well finished. While being entirely practical, the lounge contains a divan and three moquette upholstered chairs, a moveable table at which meals can be served, and two green baize covered desks. The car is electrically lit throughout. The general manager's compartment is fitted with two berths. The next is a fourberth sleeping compartment, then the secretary's office and the kitchenette. A corridor of generous dimensions runs along the side, and all the doors are recessed. The water supply is carried und.rneath the car and' electrically lifted. The roof is of special material. Heat, air and water resisting fittings are all of oxidised silver. The interior walls are of finely grained plywood, and enamel tiles. The car has collision ends, and is painted the standard red.
