ORGANISED MOTORISTS.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION.

SEVEN THOUSAND MEMBERS.

EXECUTIVE ELECTED. "I am wondering if the mover of the amendment made application to the office staff before throwing his bombshell into this perfectly law-abiding company of citizens," said Mr. Arthur Rosser at the annual meeting of the Auckland Automobile Association last night. The meeting was held at the rooms of Lewis Eady, Ltd., and was largely attended.

Dr. .T. H. La wry had opened the meet-1 ing with a pleasing review of the work of°the past year and a special reference to the fact "that since the last annual meeting the membership had increased from approximately 5000 to 7000. He expressed sincere appreciation of the enthusiastic co-operation which had been given by the honorary officers of the association, and the efficient service which had been rendered by" the staff. Dr. Lawry indicated that he would be retiring from the office of president, with which he had been happily associated for two years, and concluded by moving the adoption of the annual report and bal-ance-sheet.

Mr. G. Campbell moved as an amendment: "That the statement of income and expenditure together with the bal-ance-sheet be referred back to the auditors for further information on the points raised." The points which be raised were that there should have been a larger income from the sale of road guides, maps, literature, etc.; that sufficient depreciation had not been written off the association's motor vehicles; and that assets amounting to £886 on deposit in the Savings Bank, together with £366 in cash in hand, might have been more profitably invested in short-dated loans.

Mr. G. Howard seconded the amendment.

The secretary of the association (Mr. G. W. Hutchison), replied seriatim to the items mentioned. He said that since the last annual meeting the council had invested £1450 on first mortgage. A substantial amount of cash in hand was necessary at the end of the year, not only for carrying over purposes, but also for dealing with various matters in hand. The question of de-preciation had been dealt with on a proper basis, and as for profits on the sale of literature, etc., these were supplied to members at a fraction above cost.

The amendment was lost, only six voting for it, and the motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was carried unanimously.

Three members of the Harbour Bridge Association were heard on the advantages of the scheme for building a bridge over the Waitemata, and a resolution approving of the construction of a bridge was carried. The speakers stated that it was thought that a toll of 5d per vehicle would be adequate.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President, Mr. A. Grayson; vice-presidents, Messrs. M. H. Wynyard, J. B. King and H. C. Jones; council (six vacancies), Messrs. G. Henning, H. Butcher, R. B. Spinks, F. G. Farrell, H. Curd and J. Roberts.
