BOXING.
TOURNEY AT PAHIATUA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, Wednesday. A very successful amateur tournament, the first for many years, was held last night. There was a very large attendance. There was some brisk bouts, the principal one being a middleweight contest between McDonald (Te Kuiti), 11.0, and T. Halplii (Woodville), 10.7. It was a three round bout, and the verdict was a draw. J. Hapburn (Feildlng), 11.3, beat L,. B. R. Holden (Ruawhata), 10.7. The referee intervened in the third round to save Holden from a superior opponent. Hapburn received a medal for giving the most scientific display at the carnival. In a lightweight contest of six two minute rounds, Johnnie Beech (Pahiatua), beat Sid Hogan (Dannevirke) on points, after a splendid contest. A featherweight bout between A. Candy (Palmerston North) and D. Price (Feildlng), of four two minute rounds, was declared a draw. Two professionals, Roy Soury and Jack Crowley, gave an excellent exhibition in three two minute rounds. Crowley also engaged a clever pupil, Ted Oxley, In a three round exhibition, the contestants giving a spirt ted display.
