The Mutual Club held another of its happy little dances at their club rooms last evening. Streamers and gailycoloured balloons made festive decoration, and things went with a decided swing. On arrival the guests were received by Mrs. A. MacGregor, wearing a frock of japonica georgette and shoulder posy; Mrs. Von Sturmer, in a frock of black and gold; and Mrs. F. Allen, who wore black velvet and cream georgette with {jjpjnante trimming.

Another of the successful dances in connection with the Point Chevalier Queen Carnival, which is being run to raise funds for the Hallyburton John* stone sports grounds, was held at the Click Clack Cabaret last evening. On this occasion vote?! were raised for the sailing and football queen, Miss Dorothy Holmes. Miss Holmes wore a frock of black and silver diamante, banded In white fur round the hem. The ladies of the committee who were present were: Mrs. A. E. Shade, wearing a frock of ivory satin and silver lace; Mrs. Sherer, frocl: of biscuit-coloured georgette, relieved with blue and bronze; and Miss Dudley, frock of black ring Velvet.

The drama section of the League of New Zealand Penwomen held an open meeting on Tuesday night, when Mrs. Nello Porter presided over a large attendance, and Mr. J. M. Clark, late of the Repertory Theatre, was the guest of honour. During the evening Mr. Clark gave a reading from Ingersoll's life of Shakespeare, in which the author extolled the inconceivable richness of thought contained in the works of the great English poet and dramatist. Mr. Clark rendered many exquisite passages from various plays with feeling and expression, and concluded his address by 1 reciting the "Seven Ages of Man." Supper was served at the conclusion of ft most enjoyable evening. • • • •

A jolly social was held on Tuesday evening in Ford's tea rooms as an ending of the W.E.A. lectures given by the Rev. W. Monckton. Mr. E. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport, presided, giving an inte» esting address on "Intellectual Vitamins," the topic affirming that in the mental realm vitamins are as essential as in the physical world. Mr. Monckton caused much laughter by his amusirg anecdotes. The object of the social was to bring others besides members in, as til® W.E.A. wishes to increase membership in Devonport. Mr. Cocker, president, spoke of the Devonport branch and its success. Mrs. Webb was hostess, and made everyone feel quite at home. The following programme was given:—Pianoforte.duet, Mrs. Van Heck and Mr. Bishop; song, Misft Bailey; recitation, Mrs. de Cossey; song, Mrs. Sharpe; ventriloquism, Mr. Andrews; song, Miss Walding; song. Miss Burke; song, Master Pat Webb. An essay was read by Mr. Boorman. Mr. Purcell thanked Rev. Monckton for his lectures, which had been greatly appreciated by members.

A very enjoyable dance Vvas given at the Dorothy tearooms on Saturday night by Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Nicolson, of Reniucra, to celebrate the coming of age of their elder daughter, Doreen Mae. The hull was tastefully decorated in blue and gold streamers and balloons. Excellent music was supplied by Grace's orchestra. Mrs. Nicholson wore a frock of turquoise bltio bengaline; Miss Doreen Nicolson was in white georgette and silver lace. Among the guests were: Miss C. Nicolson, silk coffee lace with cyclamen underdresa; Miss Izola St. Claire, blftck ring velvet with diamante trimmings and Egyptian shawl; Miss M.
