VISIT TO KAPITI ISLAND.
GOVERNMENT HOUSE PARTY
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day.
A party consisting of Lady Alice Fergusson, Mrs. Haviland, Miss Frances Pugdalc, Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., Major Coote, an Imperial officer from India, and Captain Orr-Ewing, spent last weekend on Kapiti Island. Despite showery weather the bird life on the sanctuary was closely observed. Many photographs were taken and some sketching was done. It was noted with satisfaction that the undergrowth and young forest life was growing abundantly, following the destruction of goats and wild sheep. Members of the party speak in the highest terms of the kindness and helpfulness nf Mr. Wilkinson, the Government officer in charge of the sanctuary.
