FIGHTING FIJIAN.
STRIKES AT A MIRROR.
MISSED A BOTTLE OF BEER.
A dusky Fijian, Malakai Qasi (24), a fireman on the steamer Tofua, who had a fight with a mirror in Quay Street yesterday, appeared at the Police Court this morning with his right hand swathed in bandages. He pleaded guilty to a charge of having been disorderly while drunk and to another charge of having wilfully damaged a mirror, valued at £7, the property of the Auckland City Council. "With other Fijians, this man was drinking beer yesterday." said Sub-In-spector McCarthy. "He* left a bottle of beer at the foot of a large mirror outside Gladstone Buildings, but when he came back to get it he found that the bottle of amber liquid had vanished. So he adopoted a fighting attitude and struck the mirror with his fist." "He must have seen his own reflection and thought that it was the man who took his beer," remarked Mr. McKean, in fining Qasi £1 on the first charge and £4 on the second.
