Rain overnight, following upon two wet nights during the early part of the week, gave bowlers sticky wickets in the county cricket matches, Freeman and Larwood being brilliant. Marylebone y. Cambridge.—ln their first innings Marylebone scored 226, and in their innings 221, making a total of 447 runs. Hubble scored 51, Roberts took six wickets for 61 runs. Cambridge in their first innings scored 354 (Robins 103, Killick 101). Bowley took four wickets for 70 runs. Second innings, 96 for two wickets. Cambridge won by eight wickets. Hampshire v. Essex.—ln their first innings Hampshire scored 457, to which total Mead contributed 156, Newman 77, Tennyson 69, and Livesy 74. Eastman took five wickets for 122 runs. Essex in their first innings scored 224, of which Bray scored 75, and O'Connor 64, while Boyes got five wickets for 44 runs. Essex followed on, and in their second innings scored 325 for eight wickets (Nicholls 112, Raison 59). Hampshire won on the first innings. Yorkshire v. West Indies.—Yorkshire, first innings 254 (Sutcliffe 98, Barber 98). Fraaces took four wickets /or 95 runs. Second innings, 172 for one wicket (declared). Holmes was 84 not out and Mitchell 51 not out. West Indies, first innings 208 (Constantine 69, Martin 60). Second innings, 58. Macaulay took six wickets for 30. Yorkshire won by 190 runs.

Oxford v. Leveson-Gower's Xl.— Oxford, first innings, 191. Hay tool: four wickets for 60 runs. Second innings, 389 (Kingsley 144, Ford 87). Arnott took four wickets for 56 runs. Kent.—Leicester's first innings closed with a total of 107, Freeman taking eight wickets for 64 runs. Their second innings produced 432 runs, of which Shipman scored 226 and Armstrong 50. Freeman took seven wickets for 160 runs. Kent's innings totalled 288. Woolley scored 160 and Aimer 50. Skelding took five for 74 rnns and Astill four wickets for 57 runs. Second innings, 169 for six wickets, Ashdown SG. Kent won on the first innings. Surrey v. Somerset.—With 364 on the board for seven wickets, Surrey declared their first innings closed. Ducat scored 1-1 and Jardine 91. Somerset in their hrst innings scored 317. M. Lyon contributed 58 and Young 74, while Gover took four wickets for 72 runs. In their second innings Somerset scored 258 for eight wickets, Young being responsible for 69 of the total. Surrey won on the first innings Lancashire v. Worcestershire. In their first innings Lancashire scored -a jt, whlch Makepeace made 06 and Hopwood . (not out) 136. Root took five wickets for 79 runs. Worcestershire declared their first innings closed with four wickets down for 142 runs (Quaife not out 63). Rain having set in the game was declared to be drawn.

Sussex v> Gloucester.—With 361 up for nine wickets Sussex declared their first innings closed. Bowley 60, J Parkes 68, Cook (not out) 100. Sinfield took five wickets for 95 runs. Gloucester, first innings, 136. Hammond 66. Gilligan took, four wickets for 31 runs! Second Innings, 160 (Hammond 61)! Gilligan took four wickets for 33 runs. Sussex won by an innings and 65 runs.
