U.S. COFFEE CONSUMPTION.
Whether because of prohibition or not, the consumption of coffee seems to be increasing enormously in U.S.A. in the last half of 1927, the exports from Brazil amounted to 3,336,000 quintals (of 129.51b avoirdupois each), against 3,153,014 quintals for the same period of 1926, an increase of 5.8 per cent. Among the importing countries America stands easily first, purchasing and consuming more than all others put together. France stands second, with less than one-fourth as much as America, and Germany is third, with less than one-fifth as much. Italy, Sweden, Belgium, and Denmark also are considerable consumers.
