A NEW IDOL.
ANDREWS HAILED. Anti-Climax In Wimbledon Tennis. BEATEN BY BOUSSUS. (Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, June 27. Six Australian victories and a sui> prising New Zealand anti-climax constituted to-day's Antipodean record at Wimbledon. A packed centre court hailed Andrews as the new idol, but within a few minutes Boussus was the purveyor of delights. It hardly does Andrews justice to say that he came back to his normal game after Monday's stupendous achievement. Perhaps it is truer to say that the gruelling match with Hunter made him an easier victim for the agile, lefthanded Frenchman, whose game is exactly similar to Andrews, with a shade greater certainty and craftiness.
Andrews began Monday's tactics of coinin into the net, only to find he was facing a master volleyer and an unerring smasher, whoso low sweeping, line drives were invariably winners. Andrews was forced into a long game, at which Boiissus was also a master. With his speed and subtleness he lured Andrews into a succession of mistakes, chiefly over-driving. Nevertheless, the New Zealander fought finely to the end. Details of the second round of the men's singles arc: Moon beat Lycett, 9—7, 4—G, 7—5, 5—7, 6—o; Austin beat Wlieatley, 6—2, o—B, 6—B, <J —2, 6—l; Crawford beat Pennycuick, 6 —4, 2—o, 6—3, 12—10.
