INTOXICATED MOTORIST.
VISITOR FROM COUHTRY.
STRUCK WOMAN ON FOOTPATH.
A young man, Clive Horace Parr, aged 28. was lined £25 this morning by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S3L, in the Police Court for being in a state of intoxication white in charge of a motor car in Karangahr.pe Road late yesterday afternoon. Sub-Inspector McCarthy stated that while passing a vehicle on the right accused bad gone so near the edge of the footpath that he had knocked over & woman who was standing on the kerb waiting for a tram. The woman had not been seriously injured, and had been sent to her home. Accused had got ant of his car and had walked back and .spoken to her. He returned to his car and was driving away when he was stopped and asked for hia license. It i was then noticed that he was intoxicated.
Mr. Hall Skelton, who appeared for Parr, said that accused had yesterday afternoon motored in from Kawhia, and had only two drinks. He was on hia way to Avondale when the accident happened. Parr was a reading contractor workinj in the neighbourhood of Kawhia. He had to drive a motor lorry in the course of his work.
The magistrate said lie would take this latter fact into consideration and not cancel accused's license. He warned him not to come before the Court a second time, and to leave drink alona. Accused was allowed a week to pay.
