HYDRO-ELECTRIC PROGRESS.
Speaking at a dinner to the Electric Auxiliary Association, at Wellington, the Hon. A. D. MeLeod said he doubted if people fully realised how thankful they should be for the natural facilities with which the Dominion is endowed. Dealing with the extraordinary development of hvdro-electric works during the last ten years, the Minister remarkea that the invested capital had increased from £1..'>00.000 in 1018 to nearly £19.000,000. There were now generated 138,915 k.w., as against 43.080 k.w„ and Deople to whom current was available had increased from 467.000 to 1,239,933. Tn 1927 there were 228.345 consumers from whom a revenue of £2.904.000 was derived, an.»average of £12 7/ per consumer per.year: During last year 9511 electric ranees, 14.160 electric heaters, and 6738 electrically operated milking slants were in use. ~
