AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES

TO PLAY SOUTH AUCKLAND.

The Rugby League selectors, Messrs. E, Fox, Ii Avery and E. Asher have chosen the following team to meet South Auckland at Carlaw Park next Saturday:— Full-back: Dufty (Newton). Three-quarters: L. Scott (Devonport), Seagar (Devonport), List (Kingsland). Five-eighths: Wetherill (City), Gregory (Ma list). Half: I'eckham (Ponsonby). Forwards: Moisley (Marist), Somcrs (Newton), Hutt (Ponsonby), Payne (Ponsonby), Clarke (Newton), Alf. Scott (Devonport). Reserves; Backs, Prentice (Richmond), Hardgrave (Newton), Brisbane (Marist), Webb (Devonport); forwards, Ruby (Devonport), St. George (Devonport). Those who have followed the form closely in Auckland this season will realise that the selectors have chosen a wellbalanced side, and if the expected degree of team work is reached it could well be the representative side to meet the English team when they play in Auckland. The pack is the best that could be chosen at the moment on actual form. -It was obvious that tie selectors would have some difficulty in selecting the backs, as the claimants for some of the positions have been very even in their form. The real surprise in the backs is the choosing of Seagar at centre three-quarter, as lie is really a fiveeighth, where lie has disclosed great form. There arc probably many who would have preferred to have seen Beattie, also of the Shore team, in that position. Dufty, Gregory, Wetherill and List were certain of selection, and L. Scott, by reason of sheer achievement, has won his placc. Peek ham has got the half-back place on what tho selectors know of his ability and not on actual form, as he has «been out of the game for some weeks, the reserve half being Webb (Devonport), who improved tremendously as th° result of the tour of England. He has played but two games this season. The majority of League followers expected to see Prentice, the sturdy Richmond five-eighth, included, also possibly Brisbane (Marist) and Hardgrave (Newton), who showed wonderful form in the Marist-Newton match on Saturday. The exclusion of Dclgrosso will also occasion comment. The Ponsonby utility back has this season showed a surprising return to fcrm, and has played brilliantly. As far as the backs are concerned the selectors have not had an easy task, and the collective choice is obviously one in the hopes that it will prove the be&t blend.

NEWTON CLUB SOCIAL. On Saturday evening last, at the Blue Pavilion tea rooms, the Newton Kugby League Club tendered a social to the premier team of last season, nnd during the evening the premiership caps nnd other club trophies were presented to the successful players by Mr. John Lee, M.P. Mr. Lee congratulated the team on past successes, and expressed the view that If the team could reproduce Saturday's form and get a scrum fairly packed so that Newton could get that share of the ball it was entitled to, no team in the competition would be able to withstand It. Last vear Newton had been represented by a team. This year it was a club with many teams In the competitions. On behalf of the Newton Club Mr. Henry presented to Mr. Lee an enlarged photograph of the last year's premiers.
