"DODGING THE POLICE."

WOMAN ASLEEP IN SHED.

THREE MONTHS FOR VAGRANCY.

"Hold on, can't you hold your tongue for five minutes? You will have your turn to speak afterwards," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to Elizabeth Carswell, aged 48, and garrulous, at the Police Court this morning.

The woman pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness in Jellicoe Street, and a breach of her prohibition order, but denied another charge which deemed her to be an i4k and disorderly person with insufficient means of support.

"My son and husband send me money every week," said the woman, who kept on interrupting the three constables who gave evidence against her. The police evidence was that at 1.20 this morning, Carswell was found asleep with two men in a Harbour Board shed in Freeman's Bay. Recently she had been warned for hanging about the hotels and mixing with undesirables.

"I was dodging the police because I knew.l was getting drunk, and I only asked the two chaps to hide me from them. That's why I went into the shed," accused said. "Don't be too bard on me." she pleaded.

"It all depends on your previous record," said the magistrate, who asked Sub-Inspector McCarthy what was known about her.

"Oh dear me," said Mr. Hunt, as he scanned the woman's list of previous convictions. "You have fiftv of them, and have been in nearly all your life. Three months' imprisonment."

The two men, Edgaf Pascoe (23) and Francis Gibson (36), who were found in the shed and also arrested on charges of vagrancy, were each convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
