SERVICE RECOGNISED.

HARBOUR BOARD CHAIRMAN. MR. H. R. MACKENZIE RE-ELECTED. APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES. While Mr. H. R. Mackenzie was re-elected unopposed to the position of chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board at yesterday's annual meeting of that body, the opinion was offered that he should retire at the end of his present term. Mr. Mackenzie is at present on a tour of Oreat Britain and America, and his re-appointment was regarded as a compliment to his energy in the board's interests during the six years that he has held office. The acting-chairman (Mr. M. H. Wynyard) thought it would be only fair to re-elect Mr. Mackenzie in his absence. It would also be a compliment to hiin, and recognition of his services during the past six years. He believed that the special attention that Mr. Mackenzie had paid to the board's affairs entitled him to the consideration of re-election.

Mr. T. B. Clay and Hon. E. W. Alison supported Mr. Mackenzie's nomination, hut the latter said it was desirable that the chairman of the board should not hold office for too lengthy a period. While Mr. Mackenzie had given excellent service, he considered he should be prepared to retire at the end of his present term.

The acting chairman said that he understood that that was also Mr. Mackenzie's view of the matter.

Mr. M. H. Wynyard was unanimously re-elected chairman for the current year, members expressing their satisfaction at the manner in which he had executed his duties in the absence of the chairman.

The following standing committees were also appointed:—Works committee, Messrs. H. R. Mackenzie (chairman), T. Bloodworth, E. W. Inder, F. A. Hellaby, IV. F. McCallum, Campbell Johnstone, and A. M. Laing; finance committee, Messrs. T. B. Clay (chairman), J. B. Johnstone, G. Parr, E. W. Inder, C. G. Macindoe, G. R. Hutchinson, and H. R. Mackenzie; purchasing and stores committee, Messrs. C. G. Macindoa (chairman), J. B. Johnstone, G. R. Hutchinson, J. Hislop, and H. R. Mackenzie; Manukau Harbour committee, Messrs. M. H. Wynyard, A. M. Laing, W. F. MacCallum, F. A. Hellaby, Campbell Johnstone, H. R. Mackenzie, and G. Parr.
