WINGATUI JOTTINGS.

AN INTESESTING SPRINT. WHARNCLIFFE REMAINS IN N.Z. BLACK DUKE NOT COMING NORTH. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, Tuesday. One of the moat interesting gallops at Wingatui this morning was a run over six furlongs by Overhaul and YVingatui, which took 1.20. Overhaul, who has built up well since racing at Timaru last month, had the better of the finish, but Wingatui's rider had a big saddle and appeared to carry more weight. Stringbow was given a schooling lesson, but shaped very badly. After climbing over the sod wall at the top of the straight, Koremata was called in to give him a lead over the brush double in front of the stand. Stringbow jumped the first of the double, but ran off at the next, and no persuasion from his rider or trainer could induce him to jump the second fence. He will require a groat deal more schooling in the hunting 1. ?ld before he can be considered a steeplechaser.

Apple Dighton, who has lightened up a great deal since racing at the autumn meeting, was schooled over three hurdles, taking 1.18 3-5 for the run. He jumped very cleverly, and was always going easily within himself. * °

Lochella has developed lameness, and as negotiations to purchase Wharncliffe have fallen through, C'. Christie's trip to Australia this winter can definitely be considered off.

Black Duke, who has been handicapped at 271b above the minimum at the Auckland meeting, is not to make the trip North, and will do his racing at Wingatui at the winter meeting. ° Despite his rehandicap of 91b for his win on the second day of the Wanganui meeting, Hymestrason is likelv to start a hot favourite in the Trial Hurdles, should he come South for the meeting. Outside of Red Heather, who goes well for a mile and a-half, the field for that race is a weak one.

Peter Marion is suffering from a sprained fetlock, and has been scratched for all engagements at the winter meeting. The remainder of Trilford's team is likely to be at the meeting.
