HOTEL THIEF.
CAUGHT IH BEDROOM.
GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE.
Having previously pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of boots worth 10/, the property of Reginald Griffin, Herbert Harold Payne (44) came up for sentence at the Police Court this morning.
Sub-Inspector McCarthy stated that the boots were stolen from a bedroom of the Oxford Hotel, Payne having been caught in the bedroom by the occupant. He had been previously warned about hanging about the hotel premises. Payne's explanation was that he committed the offence while under the influence of liquor.
He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months, on condition that he immediately goes to the country to commence work which is awaiting him.
