MENACE TO EMPIRE.
Migration Of Italians May Change Dominions. SYSTEMATIC SCHEMES. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) PARIS, May 21. M. Henry Dekorab, the French publicist, in an article on British migration in "Le Matin," says that at present only three countries are able to supply white migrants, these being Germany, Poland and Italy. Just now Germany is holding back, but Italy has begun a systematic scheme of colonisation. Methodically and systematically Italians are going to Australia, though the Australian authorities are not encouraging them, but they manage without it. Owing to their own excellent local organisation each newcomer finds the credits necessary to establish him in the shape of a sort of loan of honour. The migrant engages to return the money by making loan cohorts of those following him. It is easy to imagine that after years ! of this kind of penetration Australia and Canada will not retain their traditional aspect of British Dominions. Their | spirit will be changed and their political | tendencies modified.
