MINE EXPLOSION
Little Hope For 152 Entombed Men. PENNSYLVANIA DISASTER. ( (Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) (Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK,. May 21. The death roll in the mine explosion at Mather (Penn.), in which between 200 and 00 miners were entombed, had reached 00 up till a late hour on Monday night. There are 152 not accounted for and little hope is held out of their being alive. Fifteen rescue parties were at work, but they were hampered by fire damp. Five of the thirteen rescued men who are in hospital are not expected to live. Experts believe that none of those still entrapped below will be found alive, but all possible aid and rescue work is being extended by the Red Cross Society and other organisations and by miners. The explosion occurred as the day and night shifts were exchanging places. #It caught part of each of workers. It is believed that many bodies are now beneath the debris.
