THE CHORAL SOCIETY.
It was my privilege as a visiting musician to be present at the performance of "Elijah" - given by the Auckland Choral Society last Thursday, and I feel it a happy duty to Bet forth the excellent impression I had of an oratorio well performed and the great pleasure I received from it. In Mr. Muston the society has a conductor who knows his job and is master of the situation at all times. The choir, possibly a little lacking in the male body of its singers (a condition with which most choruses throughout the world have to contend), nevertheless did splendidly and never failed to -do what Mr. Muston asked of it. It was a pleasure, too, to see and listen to the • excellent work of the soloists, and the orchestra also did what was asked of it in fine style. Auckland is to be congratulated on its possession of such a fine, live musical body, and I hope it may long continue to support it to the full. ERASER GANGE.
