MUCH IN A NAME. (To the Editor.) It is pleasant to read of "New Zeal's* expressed desire for a clean, impartial national Administration, but "N.Z." regrets that be cannot agree with the statement "there » nothing in a name." Are the names "Seddon." "All Blacks," "Anzac," "Carbine," etc., to New Zealanders ? The great British wrote, "What's in a name?" and it maybe answered a tremendous lot if it is a good "—m earned by good deeds. Just as the name "An Blacks" stands for high quality football, does the name "Liberal' stand for bigk t quality politics. The politics of Balfcu£jf Seddon and Co. were Liberal in deed, to the wage earners, the farmers and tbe general trading community. A most emphxtie testimony to the quality of Liberalism was once given at the hustings by a well-know* member of the Conservative, now Reform, party. He said there was now no such ttiwig as the Conservative party; it was as mncfc Liberal as "the real MacKay." As Hk. > penser of the imitation that is the form of flattery belonged to a party that had opposed much Liberal legislation, there were many who read and muttered, "We hae ocr doots." With respect to the suggested inehision in the merger of the Labour party "New Zeal" has missed "N.Z.'s" point. Ere the advent of the soap-box orator and the political quack the present supporters of the Labour party were mostly disciples of Liberalism. ■ Political parties may be divided into two sections, the representatives, or active, electors, or passive, section. As the politics of the active section of the Labour party, as tried in Australia and elsewhere, have proved a dismal failure there may be a prospect ef many of the passive section returning to tbe Liberal fold, which is all that would be required to return to power a true Liberal Government.
