BIGGEST EVENT FOR*YEARS.
A oeremonial military parade oif a character which has not been attempted for at least three years is being arranged for the day following Sunday, June 3, the King's birthday, at the Domain, when his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Sir Charles Fergusson, will take the ealute. The ceremony will take »place at 10.30 a.m., and will 'be the biggest military gathering seen in Auckland for a very considerable time. It is hoped by the Defence authorities that the Returned Soldiers' Association will take part, and if they do considerably greater interest will attach to the event than if only existing military units attended.
The troops, numbering some four thouband, will consist of a detachment from the Royal Navy, Royal Naval Reserve, Field Artillery Brigade, Coast Artillery Group, Field Engineers, Signal Depot, Ist Battalion (C.R.D.), the Auckland Regiment, Northern Depot, N.Z. Medical Corps, and about six battalions of senior and junior cadets. The bands 'to take part will consist of these of the Royal Navy, Northern Command Artillery, Ist Battalion (C.R.0.), tjie Auckland Regiment, Senior Cadet Band, No.' 1 Regimental District, and the Seddon Memorial Technical College Trumpet Band. Although the naval units will march through the city streets, it has not yet been decided that the remainder of the, troops will do the same, but there is yet time for this to 'be arranged. Colonel Charters, commanding the Auckland Infantry Brigade, will be in charge of the troops. Troops will march past a saluting base by companies, and the National . Anthem will be played by the massed bands.
