TRIOTTING "GUIDE."

PUBLISHER PROSECUTED. INTENTIONB IN DISPUTE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN", this day. Francis Joseph Haywood pleaded not guilty in the Police Court to-day when charged with having published a document purporting to be a programme of trotting events at Forbury Park. There was an alternative charge of circulating the document. The publication was called "The Sporting Guide," and it contained a list of the acceptors for the first day's events of the recent trotting meeting. Chief Detective Cameron stated that the acceptances were given to the newspapers with permission to distribute them to Press Association members, and defendant had no right to copy and publish them. It was asserted that publication of this caused a drop of 739 in the sale of official books at the meeting. The Chief Detective handed in an Auckland publication, which, he Said, had been prosecuted and convicted. Mr. White, for the defence, stated that the Auckland publication definitely stated that it was a programme, but the "Sporting Guide" did not. People bought it as an indication of turf form. The magistrate, in reserving judgment, stated that at present he did not think the publication purported to be a programme.
