PREPARING FOR ELLERSLIE.

BEAU CAVALIER GOES OVER BIG FENCES.

The outside of the course proper and the No. 3 grass track were open for fast work at Ellerslie this morning, ana though the tracks were on the heavy side there were some interesting gallops. The three trestles on the course proper were very wide out from the rails. The Course Proper. Thursby, Restaurant and Kelso were the first to work, and finished in that order at the end of seven furlongs, which they completed in 1.41 2-5. Prince Papa was timed to run half a mile in 565. Royal Tea, who had a lot of pace on when he jumped off at the half-mile post, ran home in 53 4-ss. Corinax and Piet went off together from the new mile post and they were joined at the five furlong post by The Thorn. They ran the first half-mile in 52 2-sb. Piet drolping out at this stage, and Corinax finished up the journey slightly in front of The Thorn in 1.48 4-5. Lorn int and Princess Ronnie were associated in a round, the latter having the advantage at the finish, the time being 2.9 4-5. King Emerald ran a mile from the new post, being joined by Eager Rose at the five. The time for the fuH distance was 1.50 4-5. Respirator appeared to be going better than Brampton at the end of half a-mile run in 54 2-ss. Modest Boy wag finishing stronger than Tidal at the end of a seven furlong gallop, which they ran in 1.39 2-5. In a run from the half-mile post Dave showed to better advantage than Miss Mvrtle, traversing the distance in 53 2-ss. Marble Mount went particularly well in a gallop from the seven furlong post, covering the distance in 1.39 4-5. No. 3 Grass. Parfait Amour hit out freely in a run from the six furlong post on the No. 3 grass track, and was timed to run the distance in 1.19 1-5. Sir Mond and June Wine sprinted home from the three fnrlong post in 41 l-ss. Sir Archie, who went away sloiwly from the five furlong post, was timed to run his last half-mile in 54 2-ss. Huephano joined in at the fonr furlong post, being several lengths in front of Sir Archie when she jumped away, but Sir Archie beat her at the finish. Master Doon was sent a round, be♦ng picked up by Storm Fiend at the seven furlong post. The latter was in front at the finish, Master Doons time for the round being 2.12, Storm Fiend running the last seven furlongs in 1.39. Cynthia was sent a round, and registered 2.14 1-5. Karamu and Pekatahi were about on terms at the finish of seven furlongs, which occupied 1.41 4-5. Blue Spear, Killute and Royal Trek were companions in a seven furlong task, completing the journey in 1.39 1-5. They finished in the order named. Kamehameha, Scot Free, Importer and Mashoor went a round and finished as named in 2.12 3-5. Ballymoy n. hit out very freely in a six furlong task, which was covered in 1.25 4-5. Judge's Box sprinted home from the half-mile post in 54 2-ss, Sulla running a furlong less in 41 3-ss. There was little between Llewellyn and Kauri Park at the end of seven furlongs, which they ran in 1.46 4-5. Phaola and The Fox were not doing their best to run five furlongs in 1.10 2-5. Kawini and Quincoma did strong work over a round. They were on terms at the finish, running the distance in 2.14. Kawini was very lame after the gallop. Archibald finished well in front of Odin at the end of a round, which he ran in 2.11 2-5. The Jumper*. Golden Glass (Holland) was sent over a couple of schooling hurdles, giving a safe display. Archeno (Garrett), and Salamander (Healey) were companions in a schooling bout over six hurdles. The pair were together at the finish, but neither jumped as well as on previous occasions. Rahepoto (Holland), Master Noel (Sharkey) and Glenetta (Olive) were sent over the steeplechase fences on the flat. Glenetta swerved at the first fence of the double, jumping the wing. The other two, who gave a good display, finished up over the stonewalL Glenetta was tried again at the stonewall, but refusing to jump was not perservered with. Rafferty (Regan) gave a good dis- | play over a round of four schooling hurdles. Abbott's Delight (H. Dulieu) jumped | several hurdles satisfactorily. Marita (Mepban) and Betty Zane (H. Dulieu) jumped the big fences on the flat in good style, and after trotting round the centre, they repeated the performance. Wee Marble (Garrett) and Clockwork (Olive) were sent over a round of the steeplechase course, and they gave a good display. Beau Cavalier (E. Garrett) treated the track watchers to a good exhibition of jumping when going a round of the big fences, including the hill. He hit the second fence of the double, which was his only mistake. Southern Candidates. Comical, with his trainer, T. Clarke, in the saddle, was out doing trotting exercise on the sand. Tuki did strong work on the tan track. Aberfeldy was allotted two rounds on the sand at a useful pace. Perle <le Leon was also worked on the same track.
