ONE YEAR THE LIMIT.
MOTORISTS' LICENSES.
MAGISTRATE'S DECISION. REFERENCE TO HAMILTON CASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. Page, S.M., to-day convicted several defendants and ordered them to pay costs for having driven unlicensed cars or driving without licenses. He said Mr. Luxford's decision at Hamilton was not the sufbject of an appeal. Mr. Luxford had dismissed the cases under the Justices of the Peace Act, and under the section in question the decision was not subject to appeal.
" It was clear from the statute," said Mr. Page, " that the license was an annual act." It specifically said a license was to be applied for and issued annually. There was no power to grant them for a longer period. The contention for the defence conflicted with both the spirit and the letter of the statute.
