OVERSEAS PUBLICITY.
EXPENDITURE IN AUSTRALIA,
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
WELLINGTON, May 20.
The sum of £5000 is proposed to be spent by the Government in .Dominion publicity in Australia, for which country •Air. VV. H. Messenger, oflicer-in-charge of the Uovernjnent Publicity Office, leaves on Friday next.
Investigations reveal that over 75 per cent of tae overseas visitors to the Dominion are from the Commonwealth, which hitherto has received only about one-third of the money spent by the Publicity Department in boosting New Zealand. Last year Australia's, cheque from Xew Zealand was £10,000 of the total »M,OOO expended. This state of affairs ■i ill be ended now, for it is realised that the Commonwealth is New Zealand's Ijest tourist customer. Newspaper advertisements, a poster campaign, magazine articles and window displays form the main objects of Mr. Messenger's visit.
