MANUKAU AMD AUCKLAND CLUBS. FLETCHER AND MATHIESON WIN. There was a record field on Saturday afternoon for the Manukau Amateur Cycling Club's 17-mile road race. Weather conditions were very unfavourable for racing, a cold wind blowing right across the course. The feature of the afternoon's racing was the splendid pacing of the three limit riders. They never left the issue in doubt. won all the way. Results:— D. Fletcher, 7m 30s < i C. Francis, 7m 30s • W. Clarke, 7m 30s 1111* | Winner's time, 53.1. Fastest time, M. P. Byrnes, 44m 54a. Won by ten lengths, with irimH« r between second and third. The three limit boys rode a kb»wjih race, pacing each other like champions! although only about 15 years of age. Thn never looked like getting beaten. vna by half a minute. ™ L. P. Byrnes finished very fast to win fastest time from bis rival. J. H. Wad* by half a length. The Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club's 20-mile open handicap was won by the examateur K. J. Mathieson. Thirteen started in this race. Mathieson, who was riding for the second time in a cash event, did good beady work, beating D. Stony. F. Prior, off scratch, showed a return to his old form by winning fastest time. Result: K. J. Mathieson, 3m i D. Storey, ljm j W. Archer, 5m j Won by half a length, and a dose between second and third. Time. 55.20. Fastest time, F. Prior, 51.30 1-5. The field was well strung ont over the first three-quarters of the journey, and It was not till two miles from home that the limit was picked up. Over the last 100 yds Mathieson took charge and won a great race comfortably. Frank Prior put up a great nnpaced ride and secured fsslial time.
