HOSPITAL BOARD LEVY.
PROTEST FROM BIRKENHEAD. The Birkenhead Borough Council last evening decided to forward a protest to the Auckland Hospital Board against the great increase in the levy this year and at the general advance in past years. The Mayor, Mr. E. G. Skeates, said the Hospital Board wag in the fortunate position of being able to demand anything it liked, and spend the amount how it liked. The rate of .3d in the £ on the capital value of £840,367 meant that Birkenhead had to pay £1050 9/2, or £207 13/2 more than last year, which represented an increase over the previous year.
