FATAL CROSSING SMASH.
MAN KILLED BY TRAIN. COMPANION THROWN CLEAR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Wednesday. George Leal, of Anderson's Bay, Dunedin, was killed to-night at Studholme Junction. Just before six o'clock Mr. Leal and Mr. J. Craig, of Timaru, were crossing the railway line at Studholme Junction in a motor car when the motor was struck by the Oamaru-Timaru train as it came into the station. Mr. Craig was thrown clear and escaped with shock and a deep cut on the right leg. Mr. Leal was drawn under the engine of the train, and his body was terribly mangled. Death was almost • instantaneous.
