ROAD BOARD'S EXIT.
SEQUEL TO AMALGAMATION. GATHERING AT HAUTAPU. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. There was a large and representative gathering of ratepayers of the Cambridge Road Bourd, now amalgamated with Waikato County, also district residents, at Hautapu Hall last evening to fittingly recognise the faithful services of Mr. Thomas Pennell, foreman for the board, for a period of over 40 years. On behalf of ratepayers and friends Mr. Martin Butler, one of the oldest chairmen of the board, presented Mr. Pennell with a silver cigarette case and a substantial cheque, also an eiderdown quilt for Mrs. Pennell. Very line tributes were paid to Mr. Pennell's fine record of service bv Messrs. M. Butler, E. Yeale (one time secretary). \V. Harbutt. G. M. Watt (prior chairman), H. Alan Bell, J. X. Entwistle and F. Veale (late members). During the evening Mr. G. M. Watt (late chairman) gave a review of the board's affairs just prior to amalgamation, which showed a credit balance of £650 and property worth £3000, rates outstanding being nil. Those present carried a resolution placing on record the ratepayers' and settlers' appreciation of the services rendered to the district by successive boards for the last half-ecnturv.
