FIJI'S MAIL SUBSIDY.
COMPLAINT FROM SUVA.
(From Our own Correspondent.)
SUVA, April 19.
The Union S.S. Co. is paid £7500 per annum by the Fiji Government on condition that its mail steamers, the Aofangi and the Niagara, remain in Suva during daylight for Six hours. The steamers proceeding north have not done this for some five times out of six. The business people reckon that they have thus lost at least £2000 to £3000. A public agitation is being worked up and the Government may be urged to cancel the subsidy.
