ESSEX MURDER.
ACCUSED'S TRIAL BEGINS. (Australlun Press Assn. —United Service.) (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 23. The trial of William Kennedy (41), compositor, and Frederick Guy Browne (47), engineer, charged with the murder of Constable Gutteridge, in Essex, commenced at the Old Bailey. Both prisoners' counsel applied for separate trials.
The Solicitor-Gcneral, Mr. Frank Merriman, prosecuting, opposed the Application on the ground that the accused were commonly engaged on a joint purpose, which resulted in murder.
Mr. Justice Avory refused the application.
