HUI AT WAIKARAKA.
LARGE MAORI GATHERING.
TOMBSTONES UNVEILED.
At a large gathering of natives at Waikaraka, near Kaihu, representatives of all parts of the north were present when two tombstones were unveiled.
In the afternoon the assembly gathered •t the "Whakarongo," the meetinghouse of Raniera Te Rore, and his hapus to have a korero. Displayed prominently in the house was the New Zealand Maori Contingent flag, and on the walls were photos of Maori lads who fell in the Great War.
The Rev. J. Clarke welcomed the visitors to the hui. It was decided "to support the movement for a high school for Maori children to be built at Kaikohe"; to recommend the election of a Maori bishop for the dioeese of Aotearoa; to support the candidature of L. W. Parore for the Northern Maori seat in the House of Parliament. A committee was set up to discuss the matter of, the Native Land Consolidation Commission, which is shortly to visit this district.
