MARLBOROUGH CLUB.

RACES AT TREIfTHAX,

VESPERUS BEATS ORATRIX,

OPEN SPRINT TO KILPERON.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

TRENTHAM, Saturday. The Marlborough Racing Club's autumn meeting wa» held at the Trentham racecourse to-day in fine weather. The course was in first rate condition, and some excellent racing was witnessed. The attendance was good. The totalizator handled £30,284 10/, against £6837 year when the meeting was held on the club's own course at Waterleal

Vesperus Disposes of Red Hot Order. Oratrix was a red hot favourite for the cup, from Ring Roy, Joy Bird and Kilmiss. Ring Boy and Vesperus made the running from Twink and Joy Bird, with Oratrix in the rear. There was little change till Hearing the straight, where Ring Boy and Vesperus were still in front of Joy Bird, with Oratrix moving forward. Once in line Ring Boy was beaten by Vesperus. Over the last furlong Oratrix challenged strongly, but Vesperus responded and won by half a length. Ring Boy was three lengths away, with Beaumont fourth, followed by Kilmiss and Joy Bird. Oratrix got into trouble once or twice in the running, but Vesperus -was going fast as well at the post. He was very capably handled by the apprentice Webster, who claimed a 51b allowance. Ring Boy had every chance. Beaumont finished third from a good way back. Royal Duke Outclasses Others.

According if the betting the Juvenile Handicap was a one-horse race, and so it proved, Royal Duke being in front from start to finish, and winning with the greatest of ease by four lengths. Roi De Val, a half brother to Degage, stayed on just too well for Stanchion, and beat him by a neck for second place. Tcheka was lourth, and then came First Ruler and Mount Shannon. Royal Duke outclassed his opponents, . . Third Horse Unlucky.

For the Opawa Hack +* e KeddarKindle bracket wa3 favourite. There was little between the live all the way to the straight, where Fallow and Exhibition were in the lead. Once in line Keddar shot ahead, with Billion and Maui challenging. Keddar beat Maui by half a length, Billion being another half a length off, clear of Kindle and Exhibition. Billion might have won but for interference in the straight. The Sprinters. For the sprint First Acre and Kilperon were equally backed. Quantum and Singlespear led to the course _ proper from Kilperon. Dobbin and First Acre. Once in line Kilperon came on, and, all out, beat First Acre .by half a length. Royal Ceres was the best part of a length away, with Singlespear fourth, and then followed Dobbin and Miss Pat.

A Great Finish. There was a great finish in the concluding event between the favourites Catkin and Moutoa Wonder with Helotis. The judge could not separate Catkin and Helotis, but Moutoa Wonder was unlucky to miss his eje. Results:— FIRST HACK HtrRM.ES of ISOsovs.
