ROTORUA NOTES.
Mrs. Thomas McDowell, Eruera Street, has left on a visit to Auckland and Wellington. Miss Goldie, of Auckland, is a guest at Princes Gate. The Misses White, Malfroy Road, are spending a month's holiday in Auckland. Mrs. Wilson and Miss Wilson, who have been staying in Rotorua, have returned to Christchurch. Archdeacon F. W. Chatterton and Mrs. Chatterton. Hinemoa Street, are visiting Wellington, where the archdeacon will attend the General Synod. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Creamer, of Onehunga, are spending a holiday in Kotorua. Mrs. Barri dale-Browne, oi England, is on a visit to Tauranga. Mrs. M. K. Chandler, late of Rotorua, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. H. Wallis, Hamil-
ton. Airs. A. J. Macdermott, Carnot street, has left on a visit to Auckland. Miss M. Macdermotti Tutanekai Street, has left for Auckland, where her mar. nage takes place next Tuesday to Mr. ■7" Shaw ' of England. Misses R. and A. Gannaway, of Auckland, who have been staying at Waiwera House, have returned to their home. Mr. and Mrs. V. 1 Roberts are guests at "The Bun»aw j Rotorua. Miss A. OTtfeil, of Takapuna is visiting Rotorua for the ladies' golf tournament. Mrs. Permaa, of Takapuna, is a guest at Brent's Bathgate House. Mr. Rex Raven and Mr. Irwin students at St. Anselm Theological College, Hamilton, are the guests of the Kev JVW. Burley and Mrs. Burley. Mrs. X. C. Bunyard, Amohia Street, has returned from a visit to Auckland. St. Luke's Parish Hall presented a gav scene on Wednesday evening, when the local committee of the Rotorua Girl Guides and Brownie Pack held a party in honour of the Guides' fourth birthday There was a large gathering of parents and friends. The stage had been artistically arranged with dahlias, cosmos and greenery, and in the body of the hall the Guides were grouped around a realistic camp fire. An enjoyable and interesting programme was arranged, and opened with the company yell bv the Guides, followed by the pack howl oy the Brownies; explanation of "what and why" by the Guide Captain, K. Carnachan; roll- call and inspection of Guides and Brownies; company drill and tying knots, Guides and Brownies: signalling, Guides; listening game, Brownies; ambulance demonstration; guides and Brownies; kitten polka Brownies; Maypole, Guides and Brownie* quaitets sung by the Brownies, alsw recitations. An interesting address 011 the Guide and Brownie movement was given by Dr. S. Wallis, who made a special appeal to the parents to help such a worthy movement. The committee's report was read by Mrs. A. T. Coates, when special thanks were tendered to Mrs. R. S. Whiteside and Sister Muller, who so kindly lectured them in ambulance work, and Sister Meghan, wh> had examined their work. Mrs. F. C. Davidson, on behalf of the Rotorua Women's Club, who acted as the local committee for the Guide movement in Rotorua, thanked Dr. Wallis for his address and the interest he had taken in the work. The president of the Women s Club, Mrs. W. L. Richards then presented the badges to the Guides and Brownies, and congratulated them on their success. Ambulance badges to Mrs. Young, Miss E. Henderson; athletes badge, Edna Henderson: homemakers and thrift, Joyce Staple; service stars tawny owl, Miss M. Laser Worrall, E. Henderson, V. B . J; Staple, T. Simpson, V. Corcoran, Mrs. roung, G. Jones, S. Mathias, A. Way, E. Wilson; second-class badge, Joyce Staple. An interesting ceremony wag the consecrating and saluting c-f the colours by the newly enrolled Guides ' Isancy Worrall, Annie Woollatns, Elenor Corbett, who as Brownies "flew up" to be Guides. A beautiful birthday cake, with its four brightly burning candles, was then cut by Elenor Corbett, and a dainty supper was served. The enjoyablel evening closed with the singing < f the National Anthem. v
